Small in stature but definitely not to be underestimated, our first “7 with 7” feature is an absolute heavyweight in the digital content industry. From photography, video directing and editing, graphic design, styling, branding and consulting to even talent management and producing great music – Dae pretty much does it all. Dae is definitely one of the leading digital creatives on the island and someone who you probably heard of already. However, apart from seeing this creative on tour with soca giant Machel Montano or representing the dancing sensation Nandi Yard, can you say that you actually know who Dae is? Well, let’s get to know this creative a bit more intimately as we dig and ask 7 questions to this outstanding digital nomad from Barbados.

1) Where did the name “Dae” come from?

” ‘Dae’ is short for my very first name as an artist, which was Adaeze. ‘Adaeze’ is an Igbo name (Nigeria) meaning ‘King’s daughter’ – eventually everyone just started calling me ‘Dae’ and I liked the simplicity of it.”

2) What are 3 things that the average person wouldn’t know about you?

  1. “I guess the average person wouldn’t know about my deep love for African cultures.”
  2. “I lived in Norway for 2 years”
  3. “Despite my work with stars & lights, I much prefer to be barefoot in nature somewhere.”

3) What would the perfect day for “Dae” look like?

“I would wake up (& bake up) to the sound of rain in some cottage far away, have a fruit breakfast, center my thoughts, create something (music, video, images, a piece of writing). Then I would start to wind down the ‘dae’ around 6 pm, enjoy a sunset and the sounds of nature, watch something interesting on TV, eat a yummy dinner, set my intentions for the next ‘dae’, have sex and go to sleep! On this ‘dae’, I would have no idea where my phone is, and I wouldn’t be able to find it because it would be on silent with 2% battery remaining.”

4) If you were a super-hero, what powers would you have? Why?

“I am a superhero. I can do the ‘impossible’ things I decide to do, I can feel what others are feeling, I can pull the things I want to me, I can see into the future, I can heal myself, and I require large amounts of time alone to recharge these powers. I don’t really know why.”

5) Who or what are your main influences and inspirations?

“My biggest influences are my parents. DNA and my upbringing are entirely responsible for who I am right now. They taught me to value emotional intelligence, be giving, set intentions and work hard. Other than that, I borrow philosophies & inspiration from all directions – whether it’s public figures like Nipsey Hussle, philosophers like Alan Watts, or the guy riding his bike with a weed wacker attached.”

6) What is the greatest sacrifice that you have made for your craft?

“I sacrificed parental approval and steady paychecks, but I just knew it was more important to do what I love & play the long game.”

7) What words of inspiration were given to you that you would like to pass along to others?

“Chrisette Michele once told me to do what scares me. That helped me to re-evaluate the purpose of fear. Now I see fear as an indicator of what may be worth pursuing.”
